MWGA WINTER BOARD MEETING SATURDAY FEBRUARY 9, 2008 DEERFIELD COURSE CLUBHOUSE

Call to Order: President Fran Ward called the meeting to order and welcomed all those attending. She announced that is the 75th anniversary of the MWGA. It was moved and seconded that Patsy Hawks be approved as the new representative for the Northwest area replacing Mary Troxler who has resigned. Motion passed.
Reading of the minutes: It was moved and seconded that the reading of the minutes of the 2007 annual meeting be dispensed. Motion passed with the exception of corrections to the 2007 annual and board meeting minutes be read. Motion passed.
Corrections to 2007 minutes: From the board and annual meeting the Magnolia scholarship fund balance is $15,883.39 not $1283.56. Income YTD is $1283.56. Ms.team fund has a balance of $6100.00 including $1000.00 transferred from tournament fund. Not a balance of $1000.00. Sheila Haynes was omitted as a member of the Ms. point system committee. From the 2007 annual meeting the Eidt award was misspelled as Edit. Lou Hart's father had previously been inducted into the Hall of Fame not "also be inducted" at the same time as Lou. Joy May is incoming vice-president of SWATCA board--not President. It was moved and seconded that the reading of the corrections to the 2007 minutes be accepted. Motion passed.
Treasurer's Report--Georgia Day The MWGA Account balances for 2007 were distributed. Overall total of funds is $30,811.91. Overall total expenses were $377.24 over budget Overall income was $186.88 over budget making a net overall loss of $150.36. The Magnolia scholarship showed a bank account balance of $4,185.34. A certificate of deposit was purchased for a 7 months and will mature on March 15, 2008 with a interest rate of 4.93%. This was would bring the balance in the Magnolia fund to $14,185.34. The Junior golf program tournament fund showed an overall net income of $876.54. The State Amateur tournament lost $578.44, the state 4-ball lost $1292.11, the State Senior tournament had an income of $2,019.91 and the USGA team balance is $818.08. Total overall income for the tournament fund was $4,428.20. The balance in the MWGA Ms.Team account is $3028.14. Administrative expenses include but are not limited to printing, postage, rules school, hole in one commendation president's pin, trophies and tips to pros and staff at tournaments. The latter amount is determined by the board depending on the efforts and labor expended by each tournament club. It was moved and seconded that the treasurer's report be accepted. Motion passed.
2008 Proposed Budget: Total income of $3800.00 based on 75 clubs applying for membership and total expenses being $3800.00. To date 19 clubs and two individuals have not paid their dues The tournament fund with a balance of $8,354.24 and total expenses being projected at $5,500.00 will leave a balance of $2,854.24. It was moved and seconded to accept the proposed budget. Motion passed.
Area Representatives Report: East Central--Lou Hart turned in ten completed questionnaire forms from Pam Posey and Lottie Vance and ten tournament schedules for their area. There was no report from Dancing Rabbit, Newton, Ponta Creek and Timberton. Two clubs, Canebrake and Waynesboro have not paid their dues and well as one individual, Crissy Kelly.
West Central--Pam Bowman and Charlene Hughes turned in five completed questionnaire forms with 16 tournaments scheduled for their area. There was no report from Annandale, Brookwood, Canton, Caroline, Clear Creek, CC of Jackson, Colonial, Columbus, Fernwood, Live Oak, Mosswood, Steel Magnolias, Vicksburg, Whisper Lake, and Yazoo City. Five clubs from that area have not paid dues including Benton, CC of Jackson, Mosswood, Beau Pre, and Yazoo City plus one individual member, Kay Jenkins.
Gulf Coast--Julie Landry and Christel Fritzsching. No questionnaires turned in but five tournaments have been scheduled. Dues have not been paid by Pass Christian Isles, The Oaks and Millbrook.
North East--Rachel Pate and Judy Hosaflook. No questionnaires turned in though Rachel reported there were no changes from last year. She also reported Old Waverly had joined. No tournaments have been scheduled.
North West--Gai Davis and Patsy Hawks. E-mail from Gai Davis reported eight tournaments, two with dates to be announced. She also reported two new contact persons from Cohoma and Greenwood. Greenville Country Club has disbanded their ladies Association but are sending in their dues from the pro. No questionnaires were turned in. Dues have not been paid by Cleveland and Greenville. Individual Memberships--Anissa Butler submitted a request and payment for an individual membership. It was moved and seconded that Ms. Butler be approved for membership. Motion passed. An application for individuals to submit for membership is being designed by Georgia Day. A request from Jane Massie of Back Acres CC was read regarding follow-up for an individual membership for a person at Tunica National. Patsy Hawks will follow-up on this when individual membership forms are available.
Committee reports, Old Business and Miscellaneous Agenda: Newsletter--Due to Sheila Haynes suffering from neck problems the newsletter may be delayed. Jr. Tri-State--Jeanne Taylor. Tournament will be held at Hot Springs Country Club June 5 and 6. This organization consists of Jr. golfers from Arkansas, Louisiana, and Ms. SWATCA--Jeanne Taylor. Ms. will host SWATCA this year at Dancing Rabbit. The Directors tournament is scheduled for Oct. 18 but may be canceled due to expense concerns Competition is scheduled for Oct. 20-22. Club Memberships--It was moved and seconded that 2009 Club memberships be increased to $75.00 annually and individual memberships remain at $50.00. Motion passed. Senior St. Am. Tournament--Will be held Sept. 9 and 10 at Northwoods Country club in Meridian. The local chairwoman, Lou Hart may arrange format and meals as she deems appropriate for the event and facility. State Juniors--Will be held June 10 and 11 at Patrick Farms. Regional winners will automatically be entered into the Big I nation wide tournament. Magnolia Scholarship--Lou Hart nominated Erica Peyton and Perry Furr to receive scholarships for the up coming academic year. Erica is from Madison and will be attending Jackson State. Perry is from Wesson and will be attending Ms. State. It was moved and seconded that each nominee receive $1000.00. Motion passed. A thank you was read from Brittany Hannah regarding her appreciation of her recent Magnolia scholarship. Shug Campbell--Fran Ward reported that Shug is seriously ill and will be having surgery in the next couple of weeks. State 4-Ball--It was moved and seconded that the bid from Dogwoods golf course be approved for the state 4-ball on July 14-16. Motion passed. State Seniors--It was moved and seconded that the bid from Northwood country Club be approved for the State Seniors tournament September 9 and 10. Motion passed. State Amateur--The State Amateur will be held June 15-19 at Sunkist Country Club at Biloxi.
New Business: A sunshine committee was set up with the Secretary being responsible for sending cards as needed to MWGA members. It was recommended that Irene Flavian and Shannon Covich receive acknowledgement at the 2008 State Am for being back to back State Champions during the course of their playing careers. State Senior Meeting--It was suggested by Samye Johnson that a meeting be held at the State Seniors tournament because Seniors are not as represented at the state am. A meeting will be held when deemed necessary by the board who are to remain on the grounds during tournament events. Tournament Chairman--President Ward appointed Samye Johnson, President-elect, as overall tournament chairman for 2008. This responsibility will include all details of each tournament including sending entry forms and marking each course. She will assign others to assist with this responsibility. Tournament formats--Discussion on tournament formats including setting up divisions for State Am and Seniors and reconsidering stroke play versus match play for three days with two qualifying rounds at State Am. These points will be brought up for vote at the annual meeting in June.
