MWGA ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the Ms. Women's Golf Association was held at 8:00 p.m. at the Mermaid Restaurant in Madison, Ms. on Tuesday June 15, 2010.

The following board members, area reps and chairwomen were in attendance:

Reading of the Minutes

It was moved and seconded that the reading of the 2010 winter board meeting and 2009 annual meeting minutes be dispensed. Motion passed. A correction was needed to the winter board minutes as to the location of the SWATCA tournament. It has been moved to Turtle Creek Golf & Yacht Club in Killen, Al.


Treasurer's Report
       
Treasurer, Rachel Pate presented the 2010 financial statement and gave a detailed financial report. She explained that our balance of cash on hand has not had any tournament expenses paid out and would decrease the balance significantly. She also noted that each tournament of 2009 expenses were included in the handout and the budget for 2010. She reported on the status of the ongoing audit by the IRS of MWGA. She has a CPA answering the audit and he stated that it consist of forms being completed incorrectly. The tax free status of the scholarship account should remain intact.

 
Area Directors Reports

Kay Simmons, Chairwoman of the Area Reps, reported new responsibilities for the reps and that they have written job descriptions in order for current and incoming reps to be aware of their duties. They will become a more efficient group to MWGA.

Gulf Coast--Deneice King

Deneice stated that preparations for the Senior Amateur are on schedule and that The Oaks is looking forward to hosting the MWGA.

East Central--Celia Allen
Reminded everyone that 4-Ball has been moved to Hattiesburg Country Club.

West Central--Lynn Harmount and Charlene Hughes

Members with 10 or lower handicaps were urged to apply and try out for the SWATCA team.

Northwest--Gai Davis and Patsy Hawks

Announced that the 4-Ball in 2011 will be in their area at Tunica National Golf Course.

Northeast-- Kay Simmons

SWATCA--Jeanne Taylor

SWATCA tournament will be held at Turtle Creek Yacht & Golf Club in Killen, Al. October 18, thru the 21st, 2010. Team Captain Charlene Hughes announced that a fund raising tournament will be held July 31, 2010 at Bay Pointe Golf Club in Brandon, Ms.

Juniors--Lou Hart

We hosted the Tri-States tournament at Greenwood Country Club, Greenwood, Ms. on June 4thand 5th. Our team came from behind on the last day and won 7 of 8 matches to win the tournament. The state tournament will be held at Patrick Farms in Brandon, Ms on August 3rdand 4th.

New Business

Area Directors Nominations:
The following slate of nominees, were presented for elections and nominations were opened to the floor:
North West--Patsy Hawks nominated for 2nd2 year term
North West--Cissye Gallagher nominated for 2 year term replacing Gai Davis
East Central--Ann Payne nominated for 2nd2 year term
Gulf Coast--Carol Conover nominated for 2nd  2 year term
West Central--Lynn Harmount nominated for 2nd2year term
Motion made and seconded to accept nominations. Motion carried.

Shelia Haynes announced the First Annual Senior Women's Tri-States Competition, to be held at Beau Pre' Golf Club, Natchez, Ms., on August 14thand 15th, 2010. The formant will be four ball team match play on day 1 and singles match play on day 2.  She handed out applications and information.

2011 Tournament Bids-
State Amateur- Dancing Rabbit submitted bid to host the 2011 State Am. June 13ththru 16th. Moved and seconded that bid be accepted. Motion carried.
State 4-Ball- Tunica National submitted bid to host the 2011 State 4-Ball July. Moved and seconded that bid be accepted. Motion carried.
State Senior Am. - Lake Caroline submitted bid to host the 2011 State Sr. Am. September 13thand 14th. Moved and seconded that bid be accepted. Motion carried.

Other Business

President Johnson announced that all entry forms will be on the MWGA web site for 2011, only paper entries will be mailed to member clubs. She also discussed the cost increases of cart rentals, meals and other expenses at state tournaments. We may have to raise entry fees in the future to cover these increases. We may need to consider limiting the field at tournaments to prepare more accurate budgets. Members were asked for their opinions on these items and on changing from match play to stroke play. Delegates were requested to get opinions from their area member clubs and bring the information collected to the next board meeting.
